St. Andrew's became involved in taking worship services to unsentenced women prisoners at the Estrella Jail when our past rector, Fr. Albert Holland began volunteering with a program organized to bring opportunities for all religions to represented and available to the prisoners. I began volunteering with this program after answering a personal "heart call" from the Lord one Sunday morning, and I have never regretted stepping forth. I've gone in inexperienced and somewhat frightened---all I had was willingness.
I am in my second year of service now, and words can't cover the blessings I've had in doing this small thing for those who "but for the grace of God" would have been me. We go "two by two", and I am called to go about once per month, on a Saturday afternoon. Becoming involved required strict screening and education, and the work is uncompromising because of the risks involved. If you feel called by God to this work, please let me know. -- Louise Bowles
